Great little short Stories about Vietnam from some of my Helicopter Buddies. Loved the format and plan to write some of my Vietnam stories in the same way. Easy to read each story in just a few minutes like at a coffee break.

Great book to read and learned a lot.

I've known Bill for about 6 years we both belong to a group of pilots and crew members on the web. Bill reached out to me cause I was very down and considered alternatives and he recognized it. We both live in TN and were able to get together and with Bills help Im still here. Last year Bill invited me to a reunion C/227 because I was also a crew chief. I Isolate myself in my shop been married 48 years and my wife insisted I go. What an enjoyable time. A Lot of the stories in the book were pilots that were at the reunion and the whole time nothing but humorous stories. We had movies of there missions and the the pilots in the room was narrating the action and I was just in aww. I cried laughed and felt welcomed. After reading the book and knowing the men telling their stories all I can say is I felt like I was in a room of heroes and well aculated men with medals awarded to heroes. Even though I was a crew chief I dont have the medals these men have and they all accepted me as if I was one of them. I have been bless by God to have met Bill and for him to include me in to his band of heroes is very humbling for me. If you want a true account of the helicopter missions this will be a book you need to read.

Author William Peterson's newest book is his best. It delivers action, adventure, inspiration and real life heroes. I enjoyed reading about my fellow helicopter crew members and their personal accounts of what they experienced during the Vietnam War. No one had the same experiences but all of us faced the possibly of death or being seriously injured and in our ways.Two of my own stories are featured in this book along with those of several other veterans of the helicopter war in Vietnam. Truly a great reading experience regardless if you are a veteran or not. This is a FIVE STAR BOOK on any rating chart!!!!

Thanks Bill, for another fine book of first hand accounts of the life and times of the Vietnam veterans of US Army aviation units. Living up to the intensity of your previous books, Chopper Heroes, Have Guns Will Travel, spells it out for those that want more than just a chronicled account of the Vietnam War and generic descriptions of those that fought in that struggle. Personalizing your book by involving specific people and specific places brings the reader into military action in a way few authors can accomplish. One has to have been there to know the true nightmare of war. Faced constantly with death, these men found time to laugh and joke and share and feel and accept the life they had and the duty they swore to carry out. They were prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice and went forth into the caldron while scared but determined. Is this not the true definition of bravery. I never saw the combat you guys saw but I feel closeness and an overwhelming pride and gratitude for you. You are my eternal band of brothers.It is true “You haven’t lived until you’ve almost died- Unknown”. Your book takes the reader to that precipice. How precious life suddenly becomes upon the return. As you know, I volunteered to be an Army chopper pilot but was denied transfer from Navy to Army. A disappointment I am now thankful for. At age 73 with the wisdom only the years grant us, I look back and wonder…did I really have the right stuff. I can honestly say I don’t know but I do know beyond a doubt that you guys had the right stuff, Bill. I am honored to call you a friend.Welcome home brothers!
