How I wish I could thank the author for this excellent book (I understand he is no longer living.). This book explained so much to me-- why I never felt loved by my parents, for one thing! I wish my parents had read this book, I wish that I had read this book before raising my children, The author addresses the very important issue of, how to convey your love to a child. How does a child understand that you love him/her? Without that understanding, there is much misery, many problems. Basically, the teaches how best to communicate to a child on the emotional level. It sounds so simple, like why do you have to read a book to learn this? And if you know the basic principles it IS simple (not always easy, but simple.) But so many don't know how. The book is not long, not filled with psychological jargon. It is written in a straightforward, easy to read style. You don't have to be a genius or an intellectual to read and understand this book.

This book really resonated with me. It is quick, to the point and yet fully explained not only the relationship I had with my parents (and the problems, difficulties and rebellion I experienced) but how to love my own children in a way that conveys to them. I know this book will improve my relationship with my kids and their lives in general. I am so glad I found this while my kids are still young. It will make a difference in their lives and my own. Highly recommend this book.

This is an incredible book. I'm a young mom, so I learned a lot from both ends, learning from mistakes my mom and dad made as well as implementing new strategies for loving my own two children. My husband read it at the same time as me so we were able to discuss it, which helps so much when your spouse is on the same page. I know lots of people say to love your kids, or they're crying because they need something, and sometimes as the actual parent you just get so frustrated and bogged down, this reminds you that you are the hero they need you to be. They will remember more how you made them feel by your reaction, rather than the lesson you were trying to teach them (no hitting, be kind, etc.). Beautiful book, and written in a very easy to read format. With small kids its hard to find time to read but this is so engaging you'll make time! :)

Great book. I don't know about some of the causal links the author drew up between upbringing and future outcomes when kids grow into adults, and also I personally don't like his constant quotes of Scripture. Worth a read though. Very quick.

This book is ideal if you want practical advice in order to help yourself with child rearing. A long time ago I was at my friends house and he told me about this woman who came over to his house and her children were happy and respectful and just wonderful and so I called her and asked her if she had read anything on child rearing and she said she has read everything she can get her hands on and I said do you recommend anything and she said this was one of the two books she recommended and I read it and think so too but anyway it shows you among other things how to give your child proper self esteem and how to love them so that they do not misbehave just to get your attention and it tells you so much more with practical examples that even a caveman could raise a child that will keep themselves out of trouble.

Other than a baby book like "Your Baby's First Year," this is the first book any parent should read. Campbell has the secret to why modern working parents struggle to communicate love to their kids. This is the answer!

I read this book with a group of Moms in small group. There were some good parts and good advice, but there were also some unrealistic parts or just things that we all said would not work with our kids. Overall, I didn't really take away anything from this book that I've not already read or heard.

This book has really challenged me to make a better effort to really love my children. So often as a parent we get caught up in all the responsibilities and task that come with parenting and we lose sight of what matters most - Showing Gods love and our love to our children. For me, it is taking the time to stop, look and listen to each child as they need me each day!
