Terry Golway teaches U.S. history at Kean University in Union, N. J. His previous books include Washington's General, So Others Might Live, The Irish in America, For the Cause of Liberty, and Irish Rebel. He coauthored with Robert Dallek Let Every Nation Know: John F. Kennedy in His Own Words. Richard Beeman, the John Welsh Centennial Professor of History Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania, has previously served as the Chair of the Department of History, Associate Dean in Penn's School of Arts and Sciences, and Dean of the College of Arts of Sciences. He serves as a trustee of the National Constitution Center and on the center's executive committee. Author of seven previous books, among them The Penguin Guide to the United States Constitution and Plain Honest Men: The Making of the American Constitution, Professor Beeman has received numerous grants and awards including fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, and the Huntington Library. His biography of Patrick Henry was a finalist for the National Book Award.

Some really great speeches in here and others that I wouldn't have thought of or had never heard before.

Great book giving an overview of some of the best political speeches in our history. I bought another copy as a gift. Every American should be privy to these speeches. Who knew President Eisenhower is the who coined/popularized the term "military industrial complex" and warned of its perpetuation.

my father was thrilled with these. and used them in discussion with friends.

One of the best books I have ever owned. Inspirational!

Order exceeded expectations.

I enjoyed reading these speeches; some very familiar others somewhat new to me or long forgotten. However, it is a shame that many are excepts from the original text. This is a disservice to fully appreciating the historical perspective of the words and of the moment.

Great speeches to teach however why is the cover back & front full of marking.Bought as new.! Amazon you are slipping with the products!!!

Saw this in a local book store and wanted it. Love reading these powerful speeches. Can't wait to collect the set.
