I have seen the Midori Hous several times and have always been impressed with its features and Energy Efficiency. Built as a certified Passive house as a remodel is amazing. It is comfortable and provides fresh clean air at all times. Chie Kawahara has done a great job in putting this book together. It is an asset for all of us who want to tackle a project like this. Kurt was always delighted to show case the house. Their hospitality with fresh baked cookies and juices was admired. I wish them all the love and comfort in the House. This is helping us do one home at time. It is making this world a better place to live and helping conserve the environment.

I have followed the Midori Haus blog for a few years and I attended an open-house. One can only imagine how much energy and attention to detail went into creating this master guide to renovation and green building. I am always on the hunt for books on how to build barns, how to build a net-zero home, how to renovate a cottage, etc. However they all seem to lack the personal experience of someone actually investing years of time investigating and finding the best solutions for creating a home that is durable, efficient, healthy and beautiful. What I like about the format is they way the projects are broken down into sections with summaries at the end of each section. Hence you can begin to rejuvenate your own home, section by section. It also makes it a very easy read. If you are buying, renovating or building a house, this book is gold!

This is an excellent book for anyone thinking about renovating a house that incorporates the values, comfort and beauty of their dream home. A lot of the ideas and tips for having a “greener” house are important to any homeowner and can be easily incorporated! The honesty with which the book is written inspires trust. As a reader, I took note on the advice given at the end of each chapter —“What we learned....” Many may not be able to commit to a (green) passive house but it is impressive and sets a high standard on how our homes can contribute to making our planet a better place and making us happier and healthier in the process. Great read!!

The author’s journey is not something we can all commit to, but we can all take away from her experience an idea of where we can start, what we can do.
