Review
"Sonya Hartnett has written a haunting story that burrows deep into the hidden lives of children. Beautifully written and endlessly satisfying."—Ellen Wittlinger, author of HARD LOVE, a Michael L. Printz honor book — None"THURSDAY'S CHILD is a brilliant story, brilliantly told—so deeply imagined and dreamlike in its unfolding, so compelling and believable in the wild, extreme world it creates. Hartnett's beautifully rendered vision drew me in from the very start and carried me along, above and under ground, to the very end. This book amazed me."—Carolyn Coman, award-winning author of MANY STONES and WHAT JAMIE SAW — NoneFrom the Hardcover edition.

About the Author
Sonya Hartnett is the author of several acclaimed novels - the first written when she was just thirteen - and the recipient of many prestigious awards in her native Australia. She says Tin and his tunneling had their origin in ants: "I was living at the time in two rooms, just going back and forth, back and forth as I watched an entire summer of ants excavating under my house. One day it occurred to me that they probably had a huge palace under there. And that’s when I started to think about ways of taking your existence into your own hands - of how, if the space around you was not big enough, you might just dig out some more." This is Sonya Hartnett’s first book with Candlewick Press.

One of the shadowy, half-remembered books in the back of my mind is a big hardcover in a scratchy green cloth binding, a book called Thursday's Child by Noel Streatfeild. I despair of ever finding that book again, because this one, an out-of-print British paperback Amazon found for me after searching for YEARS, isn't the right story. It has the right characters, like the lovely Lavinia Beresford and the central Margaret Thursday, but I fear it has been abridged. With an axe. This is the kind of thing that makes me want to cry.
I read this book several times when I was a child and I just happened to remember the name and some of the plot, but when I started reading, it was exactly as I remembered it, only I don't know how I understood a word of it as a child, there is some challenging vocabulary. The book condition was great, Thank you!The delivery was prompt.
Fun read--especially if you are able to exercise your willful suspension of disbelief.
The story was well written and well read, but it was very dark and depressing. Won't be listening to it a second time.
If I could give it no stars I would. The condition was not as stated and parts of it are unreadable
Ive been looking for this book for years because it was a favorite as a child, so im very happy to have found it.It arrived within the timeframe suggested...i was just suprised it took that long. I ordered it May 3rd and it arrived today May 25th. The timeframe given was the 10th to the 28th and it was shipped on the 5th. I was beginning to get concerned but was going to give it til the 29th before contacting the seller. It was an overall good experience... Just a very long wait time for delivery.
I read this book many many years ago and then found myself marrying a foreigner and ending up in a very different culture with a family who were not ready to welcome me with open arms so the story was always in my mind and yes, I was born on a Thursday! So was my twin, what a coincidence! I found when I first moved that there were many parallels between my life and this story so bought it and reread it and loved every page. Its addictive reading because there is always something about to happen and you have to keep turning the pages (or pressing on the screen) to find out the outcome of the newest element; be it the journey to India, how she settles in, the intrigues in her in-laws house and eventually, her relationship with her in-laws. Great book
Pretty weak really so enjoyed Twopence to cross the Mersey so was a bit of a let down.
